Hey Everyone! Welcome to Chew & Tell!

My name’s Cassie, and I LOVE food. I love to cook it, bake it, stare at it mindlessly for hours (okay maybe that’s an exaggeration) BUT I find I don’t exactly have a healthy relationship with it yet. That’s what I want this blog to be about (i’m a total newbie to the blogging world, forgive me!); my journey into finding who I am and solidifying my place on this earth. As well as eating & leading a generally healthy lifestyle.

background; What started Chew & Tell?

I’m in my last year of high school, the year 2009 marked the beginning of my transition into a healthy life style. Last summer I discovered Tony Horton’s 10 minute trainer sitting around my house. I tried out one of the videos and thought HEY, this isn’t so bad. My problem with exercise before was the fact that it takes up so much time. These videos changed that perspective.

I will admit, though, that my first approach to “healthy” living was a negative one. I started doing the 10 minute trainer for 20 minutes every day..and counting calories. I began to fear fats, and since it’s the summer I found myself constantly worrying about all the s’mores or chips I had consumed at friends parties. (I eat. A lot. ) I would total up my daily calories for the day, realized I had hit my limit (which was much lower than it should have been) and not let myself eat anymore.

I am getting over all this now. I have embraced exercise for what it is– examples of what my body can DO. I DID end up losing around 10 pounds (My weight rests now at about 115-120 [i’m 5’6”]) and am more toned than i’ve ever been in my life.  I am learning to love the skin i’m in and NOT CARE about numbers on a scale. My goal is no longer to be “thin”…I want to be fit. I love the feeling of running and feeling my heart pumping blood through my body–pumping ENERGY.

Yeah, I eat a lot. So what? I’m a teenager and we tend to do that sort of thing. I eat more whole grains/fruits/veggies than I do anything else, anyway. A few spells of over eating here and there won’t hurt me.

SO feel free to join me in this journey of mine; a journey to achieve a happy and healthy balance in my life. I plan to post recipes, pictures of what I eat and thoughts in general.  🙂 Hopefully we can get to know each other better!

  1. Sounds like this is going to be an amazing blog and I cannot wait to start reading!! 🙂

  2. I found you on another blog. I was wondering if you ever found a substitute for brown sugar. If so, can you use it with agave nectar as the substitute for refined sugar? Are there fruits that can be used to substitute either. I am searching high and low for a chocolate chip cookie recipe that contains no sugar, brown sugar, or artificial sweetener. If you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks 🙂

  3. Ok…one more question. Do you think I should swap out sugar for agave nectar and brown sugar for brown rice syrup or just use one to replace both?
